History of Alva
Alva has an extended history of Native American settlement. In the early years of America, the area was inhabited by the Cheyenne, Arapaho, Kiowa, and Comanche tribes before European settlement. The European Osage tribe set up a trading post in 1866, renaming the region as Osage City. Years later, the city was renamed Alva to honor a local Native American chief.
